Comparing the Observable Response Times of ACC and CACC Systems

This paper analyzes trajectory observations from vehicles driving in platoon formation and they are equipped with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Cooperative (CACC) systems; aiming to quantify response delays. When a preceding vehicle induces perturbation, the delay until reaction of following vehicle, often quoted as observable time, can have negative implication traffic flow other factors such energy consumption, stability safety. Quantifying delays help towards more realistic simulation modeling. The analysis is performed based on empirical three well-known experimental campaigns literature data ACC-driven CACC-driven platoons.
